Catherine’s Summer Catch-Up

At long last, winter appears to be behind us, and we may even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the mysterious “sun” we hear so much about. And this can only mean one thing: it’s wedding season! Brides will be picking up their sparkly new wedding gowns, grooms will be putting the finishing touches to their speeches, and we will be packing up our instruments and travelling far and wide across the country to play for all of your lovely weddings! In fact, just last week we were all the way up in beautiful Nairn (followed by a swift car journey back down to Edinburgh in time to play at Electric Circus that evening for Record store day!), and we will travelling as far south as Cumbria later in the summer. Luckily we have our new super-mobile Percy to get us around, emblazoned with the Cairn Quartet logo. You’ll definitely know when we’ve arrived! At this time of year, we can be playing for around 4 weddings a week. We’re so lucky to see so many beautiful weddings and stunning parts of Scotland. We have also noted where every service station with an M&S Food is, to keep us fuelled for all these long journeys!

Summer is now a doubly busy time for me, as I am also running my own bridal makeup business. Sometimes this works out perfectly, as I can be with the bride doing makeup in the morning, then dash off to the ceremony and play for her grand entrance too. It’s so lovely for me to be involved is so much of a couple’s big day. Right now, I love doing vintage style makeup, and just recently did makeup for a Film Noir themed wedding. I wish I could have been a guest at that one! I also did makeup for the quartet for our recent vintage styled photoshoot. It was a busy day doing makeup and posing in front of the camera, but we had a great time and the pictures look great!

We can’t wait to meet all of our lovely brides and grooms over the summer months. We’ll be seeing you soon!
